Today brings a big update to the way keywords are managed within Positionly.
We’ve completely redone our Keywords Manager, making it easier to use and a lot more intuitive. Our most demanding customers with a large amount of keywords should be really happy with this update!
A few of the changes we’ve made:
- Completely new interface
- Ability to remove multiple keywords
- Ability to group/ungroup various keywords
- All updates on keywords are made in real-time (no need to save manually)
- Ability to filter through keywords, either by keyword behavior (increases in position, new in Top 100, etc) or groups, names
- Ability to sort keywords by groups, classes, terms, date when the keyword was added
Its Keyword Manager (available only as an annual subscription) gives a deeper investigation of as many as 2000 keywords at once.
This tool can generate clusters of keywords automatically and view them in mind maps, as well as refresh your metrics at a moment’s notice.
Automated keyword clusters are organized with information to aid in deciding which subjects to concentrate on first when creating content.
If you refresh the metrics, you’ll notice whether any SERP Features or the top competitors for a particular keyword have changed since Semrush’s previous update.
Creating a List and Adding Keywords
Before you can begin with the program, you’ll need to make a list of keywords and then add keywords. Keywords may be included in the Keyword Manager in a number of ways:
- The homepage of Keyword Manager’s website. Keyword Manager homepage
- From the + symbol at the top of the Keyword Overview
- The Keyword Magic Tool main table
- Based on the Keyword Gap tool
- from Organic Research (Positions and Position Change tabs)
- Imported manually
To add keywords to The Keyword Manager homepage, you can create an automatic clustered list (1) or a list with no clusters (2).
For an auto-clustered list of keywords, you can enter at least five keywords, and the program will generate the list for you that is automatically clustered with groups of keywords.
The process of creating a list that includes clusters can take a while. However, you’ll get an email once the list is complete.
When the tool has created your list with clusters, you’ll be able to see this:
Most of the time, an auto-generated cluster will have anywhere between 6 and 30 keywords. Each cluster’s purpose will be clearly displayed, as well as the KD% and the total volume.
To add keywords in Keyword Overview to Keyword Manager, click the + symbol next to the word. Then, create a new list, or select one from an already existing list that you want to add the keyword to. Clicking the + sign, you’ll be able to add the analysed word to Keyword Manager’s standard Keyword Manager list.
To add keywords generated by the the Keyword Magic Tool to the Keyword Manager, click on the checkbox next to the keyword, then click “Add Keyword to Manager.” Click the blue “Add to Keyword Manager” button.
You can also select the + symbol at the bottom of each keyword and then add the individual keyword you wish to add into Your Keyword Manager list.
Similar options for adding keywords are offered within the Keyword Gap tool; use either the blue “+ Add to keyword list” button or the + symbol at the end of every keyword.
This is the same procedure with your keywords within Organic Research; simply click on the “Add to Keyword Manager” option or click on the + symbol within to your Organic Research Reports.
If you want to add a keyword manually, Find your green “Add keywords” button at the top of the Keyword Manager screen (see below). The next screen allows you to add up to 1,000 keyword phrases to your Keyword Manager (add one keyword per line or separate with the use of a space).
When you add your keywords to this tool, you will be able to collect real-time statistics regarding the competition of your keywords and then turn the vast list into clusters that are organized.
If you are creating the list using 50 or fewer keywords, then it might not be the best idea to cluster your list. If you’ve got an extensive list of hundreds to even thousands of terms, it’s much easier to manage when you press the keywords.
Search Your Main Keyword in the Search Bar
The first step is to think about the keywords. Consider the one phrase or word that you believe people will enter into Google prior to navigating to your homepage.
It could be a product your website sells, a typical issue that customers encounter, or a query that your site can answer. Choose the phrase that best represents the benefits of visiting your site and apply it to begin the process. Then, a simple 1-2 word phrase will be the most effective.
Be aware that your research should be flexible and imaginative, which means you are able to start the process again using new keywords.
If you type your search term in the Semrush search bar, the search results will show the user a keyword overview report.
To illustrate, let’s imagine we have an online site that provides gardening products and advice. I’ll begin the process of research starting at “tomato plant.”
