Mobilegeddon was Google’s mobile update with the goal to make mobile-friendly websites rank higher in mobile results than those that were designed with only desktops in mind. The update’s first release was in April 2015.
Its name was created by webmasters; a combination of “mobile” and “Armageddon” due to the potential massive impact of the update on rankings.
The Effect of the Mobile Update
Although webmasters had anticipated a big impact on rankings from the update, it eventually didn’t influence a lot of websites.
